About Capital Soccer

The Capital Soccer Association began in 1980 by Eric McMasters, then Chairman of the YMCA Youth Sports Committee, who had the vision to provide a more advanced soccer program for players than was available at that time. Capital Soccer became a member of the United States Youth Soccer Association and United States Soccer Federation and embraced their philosophy that each player has the right to have the opportunity at the level of their ability and desire.

Beginning with just two teams, Under 10 and Under 12 boys, Capital Soccer sought competition throughout the state, playing friendship games with teams from Grand Island and Omaha. The league grew to over 100 players the following season.

In 1983, Capital Soccer revised their rules of competition to maximize players ability to learn. They played on smaller fields with less players, providing a more successful experience for children.

In 1985, members of Capital Soccer formed the Lincoln City High School Soccer Association and began working with the Lincoln Public Schools in developing club soccer teams at each high school. The following year, Capital Soccer sponsored the Lincoln High School Soccer Championship. A mail campaign to School Board Members, presentations at School Board Meetings, support in the form of coaches and referee training, free field usage and access to any other expertise aided in the decision to implement varsity soccer in Spring 1986. State sanctioning by the Nebraska School Activities Association quickly followed.

Capital Soccer is the Premier Soccer Club in Lincoln, NE, offering select, youth, micro, and recreational programs for children ages 4-19.
