Capital Soccer Association


As a club, we want to make sure we're giving all of our players, and families the best experience(s) possible. Thus, we feel having a quality staff is paramount to complete this to all of our members. Our staff includes nearly a 100% success rate with having multiple coaching licenses from varoius organizations, along with ample hours of on field training experience, and lastly a diverse playing experience.

Alex Scheuler, Director of Coaching

Alex Scheuler joined Capital Soccer Association in 2012, after three years of coaching at Waverly High School in Nebraska. In his fifth year with CSA, Alex was awarded the 2017 Nebraska State Soccer Association Boys Competitive Coach of the Year.  He currently holds his USSF C National License along with NSCAA youth diplomas.  Alex earned his bachelor’s degree from Doane College in Lincoln in Organizational Communications and holds a minor in Business Administration from Cloud County Community College in Kansas. Alex also played collegiate soccer at Cloud City Community College, where he started and was featured prominently in every match. He was team captain his Sophomore year, and during this time he also got his first taste of coaching. While his head coach was on recruiting trips during the spring of his Sophomore year, Alex ran practice sessions for both the men’s and women’s teams, while still a college player himself. In high school, Alex was a four-year starter and letter-winner at Waverly. In addition to being a four year starter, Alex was team captain for two years, first-team all-conference for three years, and all-state honorable mention for two years. At the time of graduation, Alex was in the top 10 all-time in career starts at Waverly. Growing up near Lincoln, Alex played for several clubs, including Capital. Alex is an energetic coach and coaches his teams with passion, which stems from his love for the game as a player. For the 2019-2020 soccer year, Alex will Head coach the 05B Gold team, the 08B Gold team, and coach in tandem with Joel Bergt on the 03B Gold team. 

Edward Meitzen
Edward began coaching for Capital in the fall of 2017, but has been coaching since 2013 for various clubs around Lincoln prior to joining CSA. He grew up in Lincoln and as a former player played for Capital Soccer from 1996-2000. As a player, Ed played for Doane College in Crete, after playing four years at Lincoln Southeast High School. Ed currently holds his US Soccer D License, and will be obtaining additional licensing to further his coaching knowledge and develop our players at CSA for years to come. For the 2019-2020 soccer year, Ed will be continuing on in the role of Micro/Youth coordinator, overseeing all of our teams U3-10 (both boys and girls). Ed also is slated to be a girls select coach (specifically 08/09 girls gold), and help with various teams in the youth including the 2010-2011 girls group. Ed is also currently our club president as well. 

Ryan Davis

Ryan comes to Capital with a wealth of experience and high level knowledge in the soccer world. Beginning in the Fall of 2017, Ryan is set to coach our U14/2005 Girls group along with Tim Soenksen. Ryan began his coaching career in 2004, as a coach at Coppell High School outside of Dallas, TX. At the same time in 2004, Ryan began coaching for the Dallas Texans, one of the most successful clubs in the nation. During this period, his teams received multiple awards, championships, along with himself receiving coaching awards during this time frame. After coaching for the Dallas Texans, he then became the Dallas Sting Director of Coaching, for the Academy West Division. Sting Soccer in Texas is one of the largest girls’ soccer clubs in the Nation, and one of the most well respected Girls select soccer programs as well. As a player, Ryan played at York College in Nebraska after playing for Lawrence University, which eventually led him to soccer in the Lincoln area. He currently holds his USSF National B License, along with his NSCAA State GK Diploma.  Ryan also holds his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education with a minor in Coaching, that was obtained upon graduation from York College in May of 2004. Ryan plans to help facilitate the growth of our girl's program in the the 2018-2019 by becoming the primary youth technical trainer for our girls select teams.  For the 2019-2020 year, Ryan will be the head coach of the 2005 Girls Gold team, and the 2012 Boys/Girls Academy teams, and the 07B Gold team. 

Jeff Hoham
Jeff comes to Capital in the capacity of a volunteer assistant coach, for the 2019-2020 soccer year. Jeff has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the world of soccer, experiencing success after success as a coach at Lincoln East boys soccer coach. During his time at Lincoln East, he obtained/received the following awards/honors: 
2002,2005,2006,2010 State Champions. 2003,2007 State Runner-up. 1994 'KFOR/Sportcasters All Sports Coach of the Year. 2003 NHSCA Regional Soccer Coach of the Year 2003-2004. Nebraska Coaches Assoc. Coach of the Year. 2006-2007 'Nebraska Coaches Assoc. Coach of the Year. 2006-2007 'NSCAA State Coach of the Year. 2009 Shrine Soccer Classic Coach. 2010 NSCAA National Coaching Certification. 2010-11 Nebraska Coaches Assoc. Soccer Coach of the Year. 2010 Lincoln Journal Star High School Coach of the Year. 2010 NSCAA State and Region Soccer Coach of the Year. 20111 NSCAA/United Division I National Soccer Coach of the Year. 2011 KFOR Sportscasters All Sports Coach of the Year.  2014 NHSCA National Coach of the Year Finalist. 2017 Shrine Soccer Classic Coach. 2018 NHSCA National Coach of the Year Finalist Certification. NSAA coaching certification Instructor 1994-2016. During his time at Lincoln East, Jeff compiled a career record of 215-77(2002-2017), an impressive stat and success rate no matter the time to go along with 13 High School state soccer appearances, 16 State Championships, and 4 second place finishes. As far as licensing goes, Jeff holds NSCAA/United Soccer Coaches State, Regional and Advanced Regional Diplomas as seen above. Despite retiring from High School coaching, Jeff still teaches at Lincoln East High School currently. For the upcoming soccer year, Jeff will be assisting with a couple of the High School aged select teams when he can, to help further their development and enhance their experience while playing for Capital in 2019-2020. 

Joel Bergt 
Joel began coaching for Capital Soccer Association in 2012. Joel works directly with all CSA select goalkeepers, along with his select team coaching duties. Previously, Joel attended one of the top goalkeeper training programs offered by youth soccer, with direct guidance from several U.S. National Team coaches. Joel currently holds his USSF D License, USSF Youth U6-8 and USSF Youth U10-12 Modules. Joel had a successful career as a player prior to coaching at CSA. He played for Lincoln East High School, where he was a four-time letter-winner and a Nebraska Super-State Soccer selection in 2002-03. He went on to play at Barton County Community College in Kansas, one of the most successful junior college soccer programs in the nation. For the 2018-2019 soccer year, Joel will be the the 03B Gold, 06B Gold, and 04B Gold Head Coach. He will also serve as the club goalkeeper coach. 

Brady Thompson 

Brady came to Capital approx 4 years ago, when he randomly ran into our current Director of Coaching, Alex Scheuler, and they got to talking. Brady was a player and team Captain his Senior Year at Waverly High School, under Alex as his coach. Brady has coached across all ages from micro buddy to high school age, while at Capital. He obtained his first two USSF coaching licenses upon joining the club which sets him up to complete my D license in the near future. His primary job at Captial has been that of an assistantship as well as team fitness trainer. Brady can often be seen helping with Alex Scheuler's and Joel Bergt's teams, specifically, their four 2003-2006 red/gold boys' teams over the year(s), He is also our primary 1-on-1 trainer for players (within and outside the club) for all ages focusing on technique and/or fitness. Brady's mantra with 1 on1 training, is that it's a great way to get to know the players better and watch them develop by putting in the extra hours outside of normal scheduled training. For the 2018-2019 Brady is currently working with our U9 Boys Bohemians group, our micro groups, and running various select team on field and fitness sessions when time allows. He states really enjoyed the time with the club and players as it keeps me on my toes and more often than not, laughing quite a bit. The kids and parents make working with CSA players a fun and rewarding task. As a player, he has played soccer since 1997 in club, school or league play in the US and Honduras. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2011 and played soccer under Sean Steele, while obtaining his degree. Brady will be working with the 2010 and 2011 boys academy teams in the 2019-2020 soccer year as well. 

Kris Klem
Kris comes to Capital in the summer of 2019, as part of his second stint with the club to join the coaching staff. In his previous stint, Kris served as a select coach for several select teams on both the boys and girls side. Kris begun his coaching career in 1998, with stops including Lincoln East High School, Lincoln Northstar High School, and Waverly High school- a stop where he coached alongside of our current Director of Coaching, Alex Scheuler. He has also coached for the Lamarie Youth soccer club, in Laramie, Wyoming during his time away from the club- working with teams in their youth academy, before moving back to Lincoln. Kris has also served as a previous board member for Capital, along with being an Asst Director of Coaching on the girls side in years gone by. He currently holds his US Soccer D National License, along with his United Soccer Coaches National Youth Diplomas as well. Kris will be working with several teams in our program, on both the select boys and girls sides of the club for 2019-2020. 

Phillip Yapp
Phillip has been coaching for Capital Soccer Association for more than 10 years. During his career he has coached seemingly all ages for both boys and girls. Phil currently holds his USSF D License. Phil is currently an assistant coach at Waverly High School in Waverly, Nebraska and has assisted growing the soccer program in Waverly for the past 3 years. Growing up in Jamaica, Phil received an offer to play at Concordia University in New York, prior to beginning his coaching career. Phil brings high energy to sessions and has coached at various high schools in the Lincoln area, thereby promoting connections with many well-established programs. For the 2019-2020 soccer year, Phil willhead coach the 09B Gold team, be an assistant coach for the 07B Gold team, and also an assistant for the 05 Girls Gold team. 

Emma Marcus

Emma joined the Capital staff in the winter of 2019, after coming back to Nebraska to play for the Nebraska women's soccer team. Emma began her playing days in 2004, in Hastings, Nebraska before moving to Florida in 2013. While in Florida, she played for the Florida Kraze Krush as a player. During her time there, she helped her team attend Southern Regionals 3 times, with one Regional Championship that culminated in a 3rd place National finish. In her last full season, she attended ECNL Nationals, along with obtaining the following awards in High School- first team all conference (4 yrs), Team MVP (2 years). While in Florida, Emma began her coaching career in earnest while assisting with her club's first touch and developmental program, while also running private coaching sessions. Emma currently is a division 1 soccer player for the Nebraska Cornhuskers Women's team, as she is a Freshman in 2019. For the 2019-2020 soccer year, Emma will be assisting with the 05/06 Girls Gold team, along with the 2012 Boys and Girls academy teams. 

Jeff Peterson
Jeff joined the Capital Staff six years ago, when he started working in the micro program and youth academy, under Jeremy Kester. During this period, Jeff was influential in many players developmental successes, when beginning their soccer careers. Many of these players he developed are still with us today, and having great successes with the club. Jeff is a current board member, and has been for over the past 2 years- making his impact on the club even greater each day. Jeff currently holds his US Soccer E license, and can often be seen coaching his teams, with two of his little shadows (his sons) trailing him at every move. Jeff plans to expand his coaching knowledge by furthering his coaching education experiences during the summer of 2019 as well to give back to the players he works with every day. Jeff is a former graduate of Kearney High, and while attending he participated on some of the first ever soccer teams Kearney fielded at the High School level. Jeff will be leading the charge for the 05B Red team this upcoming year, as they boys begin to prep for HS soccer and beyond. 

Cameron Meter
Cameron played soccer at Lincoln East for 4 years, graduating in 2009. He was a three-time letter winner in soccer as well as an All-Conference and All-State player. He was also selected to compete in the Shrine Soccer Classic. Coach Meter attended Morningside College from 2009-2013 where we was an All-Conference player and named an Academic All-American. He graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Education with a minor in Physics. He is currently a math teacher at East High School. Coach Meter comes from a family of soccer players, as both of his brothers were varsity players and graduates of Lincoln East. He is excited to be back coaching for the same club that he spent his childhood years playing for, and helping develop the next generation of players. Previous to Capital, Cameron began his coaching career at Sargent-Bluff Luton High school, as a JV and Varsity assistant coach. After that stop, he was hired on as the East Varsity Assistant coach, from 2014-2017, assisting Jeff Hoham with many successful teams druing this period.  For the 2019-2020 soccer year, Cameron will be coaching our 01B Gold team and prepping them for the next steps in their careers after Capital. 

Jeremy Kester
Jeremy joined Capital Soccer Association in 2011 and has been highly influential in the development and growth of the club in that time. He began as youth staff coach, then became the youth director in 2013, and served as director of coaching from 2015 to 2017. During the 2017-2018 soccer year, Jeremy will serve as the Academy Youth Coordinator (ages U8-U10), furthering his positive contributions to the club. Currently, Jeremy holds his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, along with a USSF E License. He grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and played for Lincoln Southeast High School and CSA. In college, Jeremy played for Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri. Jeremy will be be a HS academy training coach this year, along with assist many other select teams on an as needed basis. Jeremy will primarly will be working within the youth ranks for 2019-2020, but not immune from popping into various select teams from time to time. 

Jeremiah Majorins
Jeremiah comes back to Capital to coach in 2019-2020, for his second stint with the club as a coach. Jeremiah has a history in Lincoln both as a player and a coach, as he played at Nebraska Wesleyan for one year before the majority of his career was played at Concordia University in Seward, Ne. His college career began after a storied career as a player at Lincoln Lutheran High School. He was a 3 time letter winner at Lincoln Lutheran, helped the team to win three District Championships, and all of those titles were followed up by three State Semifinal appearances. During this time, he was also a club player with Capital, furthering his development as a player. During his time away from Capital, Jeremiah coached in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, for FW Sport Club- where he worked with both boys and girls teams in their academy and select programs. Jeremiah currently holds his US Soccer D National License, and is the Boys Soccer Head Coach at Lincoln Lutheran High School. For the 2019-2020 soccer year, Jeremiah is slated to help coach the older high school boys teams, across a couple of ages. 

DJ Galloway
DJ joined Capital Soccer Association in 2016. DJ works with our youth academy teams and brings energy to his training and games. Currently, DJ holds a USSF E License. Prior to coming to CSA, DJ played youth soccer in Omaha, including high school soccer at Millard West High School and for various clubs. DJ is a self-proclaimed soccer-aholic and looks forward to coaching Lincoln area youth and shares his passion for the sport with them. For the 2019-2020 soccer year,DJ will assist Phil Yapp with the 09B Gold team, and other various teams and projects that Ed Meitzen requires of him. 

Harlan Milder 
Harlan has coached competitive and developmental teams at Capital Soccer Association for more than 20 years. Harlan also has coached Lincoln Pius X High School boy’s soccer since 2005, and prior to that coached at Lincoln Northeast High School. Harlan currently holds a USSF C License, USSF National Youth License, and certification in the NSCAA Advanced National Course. He previously coached U13, U14, and U15 Nebraska Olympic Development teams along with serving as a director and board member of several clubs in the state of Nebraska.

Scott Claypool

Scott began coaching for Capital in the Fall of 2015, but has been coaching in Lincoln since 2005 prior to joining CSA.  Scott grew up in Lincoln and has been a big supporter of youth sports in our community.  Building a strong team culture and fostering an environment of learning is the core of his teams. Scott currently holds a US Soccer E License and will be obtaining additional licensing to further his passion for educating our athletes at Capital Soccer Association.  Scott is the current club President and has many responsibilities within the club, one of those being promotion of the club and the sport in Lincoln. For the 2019-2020 soccer year, Scott will be working in the youth academy, to further develop players and enhance their love for the game. 

Josh Torell
Josh has been staff coach for Capital over the past several years. Josh has helped, assisted and head coached many various teams in several different programs, ages and genders. A former board member himself, Josh is a coach who coaches his teams with passion and energy and this passion and energy is supplemented with the backing of his US Soccer E license, that he holds. Josh is an everpresent member of the Capital Staff, working wherever is needed to further players' development and skills in a fun yet challenging environment. Josh is a former Lincoln Northeast graduate as well, which further connects him to soccer in Lincoln. For the 2019-2020 soccer year, Josh will be working in the youth academy, to further develop players and enhance their love for the game.
