CSA Club Players Lead Teams To State Championships

Congratulations are in order for both the Lincoln East and Pius boys teams who played pivotal roles in bringing two state titles to Lincoln mid-week (Tuesday May 18).

In Class B, Pius X, led by Nebraska's 33 goal scoring sensation, Jake Ramsey (CSA Elite - formerly coached by Chris Hamburger and prior to that, Ben Damewood) won the final 1-0. They were anchored at the back by keeper Brian O'Neill, and defenders Kenton Salomons and Charlie Hinds, all CSA standouts. Four other CSA players also helped this year: Eric Pryor, Memo Haro, Austin Dao and Nick Verilek.

In Class A, Lincoln East, powered by no less than twelve CSA players, with often ten or eleven on the field at once, won in dramatic fashion in extra time 4-2. The back four of Dillon Wagner, David Cook, Sam Nobbe and Cole Kilgore acquitted themselves very well, providing freshman keeper, Mike Rilett, with great stability throughout the game. Defensively, the Man-of-the-Match was Sam Nobbe, who scored what could have been the best goal in Nebraska High School history, hitting a tough half volley after winning a thunderous tackle, springing Justin Hill on the left side, and sprinting into the box to receive Hill's service.

Attacking Man-of-the-Match had to be Kyle Nowka. Rudy Wagner's Chaos player was busy throughout, keeping possession and running miles, and it was most fitting that the game was put beyond doubt after he was hauled down after a mazy run into the Omaha South penalty box. Not only did he win the penalty, but he scored on a rocket from 33 yards to give East the decisive third goal.

Other CSA players who left their mark on the game were Mike Reckmeyer, Giulio Persello, Zach Kulawik, Ryan Bell and Tim Kubert.

Well done Pius X and Lincoln East!
